If you’re considering applying for a Partner Visa, below are the answers to some frequently asked questions.
1. We don’t currently have much evidence to show our relationship. Does that mean we can’t apply for a partner visa?
I’m often asked this, and my answer is, ‘Not necessarily’. The question that the case officer will ask is whether you are in a genuine relationship with your partner. We can assist you with how to prove this. Examples of acceptable evidence include statements from friends and photos of you together.
2. How long would the process take for me to obtain a permanent resident (PR) visa?
It depends on the number of applications received by the Department of Home Affairs; you can see the current estimated processing time published on their website. However, as the partner visa process consists of two stages, it would take at least 2 years for the applicant to be eligible for a PR visa from the date of the first stage visa lodgement.
3. Am I allowed to work full-time or study while I am on a temporary partner visa (first stage)?
Yes, the temporary partner visa holder is generally allowed to work and study without restrictions.
4. Can I apply for a partner visa in Australia without returning to my own country?
It depends on your current visa status, so please contact us to discuss this if you are unsure.
